Profile of The Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Akpan Luke
Rt. Hon. (Barr)
Onofiok Luke
(LIFE AND TIME)
The
Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Akpan Luke graduated in 2005 from the University of Uyo
with LL. B. in Law.
Rt.
Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke was appointed personal assistant on Protocol matters
to the Akwa Ibom State governor, His Excellency Chief Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio
in 2007. Before this time, he had earlier served as a Legislative aide to Late
Ernest Enobong Ukochio, member who represented Esit Eket/ Ibeno State
constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in 2003.
He
completed his mandatory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC assignment in 2009
in Ebonyi State. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010 after his graduation
from the Nigerian Law school the same year. The erudite Leader proceeded to the
great Malabo Republic, the University of Calabar and obtained a masters degree
in Law with a specialization in Telecommunication Law.
Rt.
Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke humble upbringing can be testified for as seen within a
short time span of 3-years in which he served the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
It is arguably that this extant Leader is a disciplinarian.
My
advice to everyone both young and old is that, we learn to treat people with
courtesy. Some of the people you are looking below to see may climb higher than
you tomorrow and you have to look up to them to achieve your aims. Guess what;
even the Vice Chancellor of the University who rusticated him needed to also
pass through him to see the then governor.
After
a 3-year engagement with the governor, Chief Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio as
personal assistant, he was nominated to the Nigerian Youth Parliament and was
later made the speaker of the 109-member parliament, a non stipendiary and
voluntary institution put up by the then President of the federal Republic of
Nigeria. His Experiency Umaru Musa Yar' Adua to help in generating inputs from
chosen Nigerian youths into the country's mainstream governance in 2008.
The
youth parliament under his watch effectively spearheaded the quest for the full
implementation of various youth friendly policies of the federal government.
Prominent among those policies was the National Youth Employment Programme
(NAYEAP). He led the parliament in the forefront of the Clamour for Amnesty in
the Niger Delta Region.
Rt.
Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke as an extrovert and youth friendly Leader has taken
his youth development and empowerment advocacy to different countries of the
world. He had represented Nigeria at many prominent international forums. He
was one of the Nigerian delegation to Mexico World Youth Conference in 2010.
He
was part of the African Union Youth Pre-Forum of the 2014 high level dialogue
on democracy, human rights, and governance in Africa. Onofiok was nominated by
the federal government as a member of the Nigeria Vision 20: 2020 special
Interest Group in Abuja.
Rt.
Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke has been vocal on national matters since 2008. He was
the first Nigerian Youth who called for Amnesty for local militants who were
disrupting oil-rich region of the Niger Delta. This was executed by the Yar'
Adua administration and peace was restored in 2009.
Still
in 2009, in Bauchi, he warned the federal government on the implications of not
standardizing schools in the north to train millions of Almajiris and as well
as pointing the federal government to the future effect of Boko Haram on
Nigerians should they fail to take steps in arresting them.
However,
the federal government did not heed to his warning to rescue the situation at
the formative stage. Today the aftermath effects of Boko Haram has been an
unpalatable experience with respect to their massive killing in the north and
destruction of properties, rendering thousands of Nigerians homeless.
Rt
Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke is a Leader to reckon with as long as leadership is the
purpose.
Long live the Rt.
Hon. (Barr)
Long live Akwa
Ibomites
Long live Nigerians
Rt.Hon Onofiok Luke
