SPOTLIGHT: ON RT HON. FRANCIS CHARLES UDUYOK

SPOTLIGHT: ON RT HON. FRANCIS CHARLES UDUYOK AND HIS REMARKABLE CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE GREEN CHAMBER. By Sam Ibok

Rt. Hon. Francis Charles Uduyok is not just a lawmaker representing Ikot-Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the Green chamber of the National Assembly, he is a man with eclectically dexterous capacities, persistently in the process of redefining and redesigning himself and showing that indeed, the depth and breath of his endowments are cavernous, unfathomable and imponderable . There was little in his unassuming beginnings that spoke of the greatness that lay buried within him: his schools: Government Secondary School, Asarama, University Of Calabar, Calabar. However, when he finished secondary school at 17 in flying colors, it must have started dawning on people that the starry-eyed youth was headed for a stratospheric destiny. The odyssey of his political ascension portrays a gradual elevation from the very infantry level of Students’ unionism as worldwide president of all Eastern Obolo students, a two term Local Government Chairman and now Member, Federal House of Representatives. Rt Hon. Dr. Francis Uduyok is a lawmaker who sees services to his people as his responsibility and not a favour to them, hence he prefers not to announce them, he rather make them spread across the length and breadth of any constituency his duty post locates at each given time. As a council boss between 2007 and 2015, he was one of the very few local government Chairmen who could among other things attempt road projects despite the difficulty and high cost of carrying out such a project in the coastal terrain and topology of the creek of Eastern Obolo Local government. Though a first term member in the house, his astuteness and exposure has given him the courage to attain a level of relevance that most second and even third term members are wishing to attain, he has successfully sponsored up to three sensitive legislative bills and as moved more than 8 motions in the green chamber of the National Assembly, a feat that some longstanding members are still wishing to attain. Some of his bills and motions include: A BILL FOR AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ELECTORAL OFFENCES TRIBUNAL FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRYING ELECTORAL OFFENCES AND ALL OTHER RELATED MATTERS CONNECTED THEREWITH. A BILL TO REPEAL THE EXPORT (PROHIBITION) ACT CAP E22 LAWS OF THE FEDERATION OF NIGERIA, 2004 TO REMOVE THE RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON THE EXPORT OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE FROM NIGERIA; AND FOR RELATED MATTERS. MOTION ON THE NEED TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE MARITIME ACADEMY OF NIGERIA ACT TO AVOID COLLAPSE OF THE INSTITUTION. URGENT NEED FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF ALUMINUM SMELTER COMPANY OF NIGERIA (ALSCON) IN IKOT ABASI. THE NEED FOR INDEPENDENT NATIONAL COMMISSION (INEC) TO COMPLY WITH THE MANDATE OF CREATING STATE CONSTITUENCIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF 1999 CONSTITUTION OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA (AS AMENDED). THE URGENT NEED FOR COMPLETION OF ABANDONED PROJECTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UYO TEACHING HOSPITAL, TO MEET THE HEALTHCARE DELIVERY FOR NIGERIANS IN AKWA IBOM STATE. THE URGENT NEED TO REHABILITATE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIRLS COLLEGE, IKOT OBIO ITONG IN AKWA IBOM STATE". MOTION ON THE COLLAPSE OF A CHURCH BUILDING IN UYO AKWA IBOM STATE”. A MOTION ON THE NEED TO CONSTRUCT SHORELINE PROTECTION AND EMBANKMENT IN EASTERN OBOLO AND OTHER COASTAL COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY COASTAL EROSION”. No wonder the good people of Ikot-Abasi, Mkpat-Enin and Eastern Obolo unanimously voted for his continuity come 2019 and beyond. Indeed Rt. Hon. Francis Charles Uduyok is more than a leader.
Sam Ibok Chief Press Secretary to the Secretary of Council Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.
